Discovering the activation point

Posted by Christophe on September 28, 2007

Being stuck in the LA traffic while listening to NPR KPCC can sometime turn a dreadful drive into a sincere moment of joy. I recently heard a full hour on the following topics:

  • Pilot changes before going full scale
  • Share knowledge so people learn, believe and care
  • Reflect on values
  • Show respect
  • Get connected with people
  • Work within people’s comfort zone
  • Make sure the benefits outweigh the risks
  • Give people the hope of positive changes
  • Make people the hero, not the villain
  • Ask people to do something they can actually do
  • Advance through small changes
  • Give immediate feedback
  • Remind people they are good for taking action
  • Celebrate wins, both big and small
  • Don’t forget to have fun
  • No silver bullet

Something related to Agile development you might think? Not even close.
This was about a new study on strategies for non-profit organizations to make people act called discovering the activation point (full study here).

Simple and strong principles are applicable everywhere.
